THE INCREDIBLE HULK SEPARATED PART I *NOTE THIS STORY TAKES PLACE AROUND THE 1981-82 SEASON IF AIRED, IT WOULD BE JANUARY 8, 1982 The time is 2 in the morning central standard time. A bus is going down a moonlit road. This bus destination is to somewhere in Nevada. It has been on the road since leaving Arizona. On board passengers are either sleeping or reading or talking. Some of the people on this bus are on here for maybe business or maybe a vacation. Whatever it is, that business belongs to who is on the bus As the bus goes winding down the road, one passenger in particular has some interest in an article he is reading. The dim light does not help much. His eyes are focused on this particular article. He reads it over and over. Dr. David Bruce Banner is fascinated. The trouble scientist has been on the road for days. He has gone by the name David Barker for over three weeks. For almost 5 years he has shared a co-existence of sorts with a raging demon inside his soul called The Incredible Hulk. For the last few weeks the good Dr. Banner is on his way to somewhere outside Las Vegas. A destination only he knows and what he is reading from that newspaper could tell him everything Now he might have a chance to find the long cure he has needed. A cure that has been out of reaches for nearly half a decade of sorts. “Hey mister whatca reading?” A girl asks “Oh an article about this new machine that can separate matter.” David says “I hate science. It is boring.” The girl states “Why is that?” David asks “Well all that stuff is so hard to understand.” As the girl said “Do you like to bake?” “Yes!” The girl says “Think of baking like science. You take all the stuff you need to bake cookies. The flour, the sugar, eggs, chocolate chips, etc. Then you mix them all in. Now the stuff is baking in the oven is mixing all together. The oven is baking them like chemistry. So you have chocolate chip cookies.” “Wow! I guess science is fun.” “It is. With out science life would be boring. So think of baking as not just science, but as fun.” “Lizzie get back to sleep.” A woman says “Oh mom.” Lizzie says. “I am sorry. My daughter needs her rest. We are going to see her father at a military base outside of Reno. I am Rebecca.” “David. Your mother is right, you need some sleep.” “Ok.” The Girl goes right to sleep So the bus continues down the road. Hours go on and on. Harry Danderson has been driving buses for years. He has driven all across North America. No matter the weather, rain, sleet, snow, sunny days, cloudy days, and etc. You name it he has driven in it. He is going to retire in a few months. He has earned it. The only thing Harry has to look forward to is taking the wife on that road trip she has wanted. Harry was looking more forward to travel on a plane or ship. Suddenly a rabbit comes running out. The driver swerves to avoid hitting the rabbit. People on the bus start to scream. The bus goes off the road. The force of the sudden steering causes the bus to roll over three times before landing on driver side with everyone scattered all over the place. It is not good when gas starts to leak from it is tank. “Can we get a doctor here there are people hurt.” Someone says. “Mommy!” Lizzie goes over to her unconscious mother whose own head is bleeding from hitting the window hard. David goes to treat her. “Lizzie listen to me alright. I want you to keep this over your mothers head alright. Whatever you do, do not let up on it. Understand?” David asks. Lizzie nods her head. “Good girl” David sees up ahead the bus driver being looked at then he looks at other passengers around him. “Excuse my leg!” A man cries to him. David looks at it. “You might have a fracture hold on!” As David goes to find what he needs to help those that are hurt everyone else on the bus start to panic. Then just as David goes to his duffle bag... “I smell gas!” One passenger says. “Everyone go to the back of the bus and try to get that door open!” David shouts. Like the running of the bulls everyone goes to the back us not paying attention. “No! Wait!” It is too late no one can here through’s David’s voice as the panic ensues. Just then David is shoved and his knee goes down hitting the floor hard. “Ahhh!” In pain from the shock David goes to recover quickly just as his hand is stepped on which does not make matters worse for him he goes to his seat where Lizzie is in more fear now. Then he looks with his white eyes and tries to hide from the coming incredible transformation as we start to see his hand turn green. Next we see the back of his shirt split down the middle of his back and his pants rip up the seams. Once more David Banner has relived his nightmare again. For The Incredible Hulk has made his stop! “Graarrghh!” The Hulk moves extra debris around. To him each piece is like paper to him. Tossing it around hurdling it around. “Raarrrggghhh!” “Mister, please help my mommy.” The younger girls voice echoes in the Hulks dim witted brain. Pushing with all his might that he has. Using everything strength in his shoulders back arms the Hulk causes the bus to right side up again and those on the bus more scared and somewhat relived. Then the green skin goliath goes and picks Lizzie’s mother and proceeds to the front of the bus. “Ohhhh¼” Harry the bus driver feels and rubs his head. He thinks the injury he has is making see big green men. His eyes blink again and he sees a big green man. He puts down the woman that was next to his alter ego near Harry. Pulling back his muscles back, thrusting out his arms and hands in the door that is front of him. Hands slam the double doors on the bus. Flying out from the crashed bus 20 yards away. “Ggrroowrrggh!” Jumping to outside, the Hulk turns around. His roars are heard only by the echo of the night. He turns around and runs into the darkness that swallows him. As the night drags on, the Hulk stops and sits down. His heavy eyes close. Pulse rate slows down and down. Just then an incredible reverse takes place. Long shaggy dark green hair starts to shrink to a dark brown color. Green skin begins to fade into the normal skin tone. Green eyes fade away when the change is almost complete and he opens them up to normal brown eyes. David Banner has now gone to a long sleep. Hours have just passed. The local police have arrived. Questions are being asked right now to what has happened. “How is she? As a Deputy Mark Norwalker asks. “Well she is not in any serious danger. Her throat is bruised we are taking her in now.” A paramedic says. “So tell us what happened?” The sheriff asks. A state trooper stands next to him. “Well it was 3:38am in the morning. I was going down there on route 56 when I saw a rabbit come running out. I guess it startled me and maybe that is why I swerved.” Harry the bus driver says. “Ok. Get Simmons to do a sweep of the area.” Sheriff said. “Uh, Sheriff Randell the press is here.” A deputy tells him. Sheriff Daniel Randell has to be prepared for the reporters that want to know what happened. He knows that there is not one question he thinks he is going to be asked is already been asked. “Ok people. We are still investigating the scene I will tell you what we have hear right now.” Sheriff Randell says “Sheriff, what did happened here?” A reporter asks “According the bus driver Harry Danderson, he was driving down the road when he saw a rabbit run out. He swerved to avoid hitting the animal lost control and ended up here.” “Sheriff Randell, has a blood alcohol test been done?” Another reporter asks “We did do a breathalyser test and it came up nothing.” “Hey Sheriff! Come take a look at this!” One trooper says Sheriff Randell walks over to where he is. He finds doors broken, twisted, and shattered. “Now what did this?” His eyes can not be taken off the damage. “Sheriff did anyone see a large green man run down through here?” In the crowd of reporters Jack McGee stands asking that important question. “Green man? Who are you?” The sheriff finds McGee’s question to be somewhat strange. “Jack McGee, National Register I see those are hand prints in the door. Now was there a man on the bus. Brown hair, average weight, and average height? Was the man’s name David?” McGee asks “Mister, their other people on the bus like that.” She sheriff says. “Right. But I have spent a week with this man. I have seen what this man or creature can do. Sheriff we are dealing with something unpredictable.” McGee’s words get everyone’s attention. “Sheriff, we did these casts of these footprints. No normal man would have that.” Another trooper tells him. “Judging from the size, of the foot prints, they might be compared to the hand prints. Get a cast of the hand prints.” “Right.” One trooper says “Get the log book. Bus drivers have to have a logbook. Do a head count and see if it matches what is out here.” As sheriff Randell orders Soon enough¼ “Sheriff we did a head count. According to the log, 87 people were on the bus. Did a head count, 86 people are here now.” A deputy says “You.” Sheriff points to McGee “Yeah.” McGee says “What can you tell us about this creature or this man?” “Well all I can say is that he is a man, who under circumstances changes into a huge monster when angered. “Have you seen it happened?” “Many times. Many times. Saved my life a few times.” “Alright. Get an APB bulletin out for this creature. In the meantime I want you to stay and help me Mr. McGee stick with me. If that creature is out here we will find it.” “Mister policeman, mister policeman! I saw a man turn into that monster.” “Are you sure honey?” Sheriff Randell asks. “Yes. I saw it happened. He was trying to lift the seat off my mommy. She was not breathing.” “Then what happened? What did he look like?” McGee asks. “He screamed out loud. Then he turned green his clothes got all ripped. He threw that seat off my mommy. He had green hair, and green skin.” “The man that sat next to you before he changed what did he looked like?” McGee asks “He had brown hair, and eyes.” “Did he have a name?” The Sheriff asks. “David.” McGee asks the girl more questions. Questions that might lead to somewhere. And so¼ “McGee what do you think? Could this be a lead for you?” “If it is, then this is not the first time I’ve got a name. I have been calling him John Doe for years or this David. Sheriff I would like to hang out. Maybe ask more questions. Maybe we can get her to look at some pictures.” “Alright McGee. But however the girl’s story might be fabricated. Let’s give it a few days.” It is now close to mid-morning. By now the police and McGee are now looking for a huge hulking creature. David is still asleep until he wakes up. He grabs a clean shirt and puts it on. He turns around and sees a small stream. Walking towards it he carries a bar of soap. Moments later he comes back somewhat cleaned. He has on a new plaid shirt, brown pants, and boots. How much longer they will stay on is the question. He grabs his worn leather duffle bag. Then he stuffs his jacket between the straps. Looking around he sees whatever damage his alter ego has caused. David begins walking on the road. Cars go by him left and right. No one stops to give him a lift. Even a mile or more would help the good doctor. Stopping to stretch his legs, a car stops 10 feet behind David. “Hey! You need a lift?” David turns his head. A dark blue sedan is behind in. Inside a woman mid- twenties with light blond hair and green eyes looks at him. She is waiting for him to answer. “Uh yeah, sure.” “Get in.” David walks up to the car. He open’s the door up and gets in. The woman who is wearing suede jacket a blouse and gray pants looks over at David. “I normally don’t pick up hitchhikers you know? The woman says “Well I have been walking not that long.” David says “So what do you do?” The woman asks “Right now, I just travel.” “Oh I see. Do you have a job?” “No. I am looking.” “Plenty of jobs in Falling Waters.” “Falling Waters. I have been there before.” “That is where we are heading. Where were you heading?” “To the University. I understand that they had designed a machine that can separate matter. But whoever designed it has to be looking more ahead to the future. I was going to the lecture.” “Are you a scientist?” “I have knowledge.” “What is your name?” “David Becker.” “I am Amanda Yewar. I work at the University.” “What do you do?” “I work for the science department. I was on the committee that helped designed the machine.” “That is interesting Amanda. Are you a student?” “No, I graduated from there months ago. I work their now.” “Internship?” “Yes. I have a degree in genetic research.” “Who is the head of the science department at the university?” “Professor William Graysen. I did a paper on him. It got printed in a science journal.” “William Graysen? I read his books he is fascinating. His recent book talks about recent breakthroughs and predictions in the science field. Did he design the machine?” “Yes he did. Do you know him?” “Only by reputation. Only by reputation.” Even as David and Amanda continues their ride into town. Back in town, Sheriff Randell and McGee are discussing the bus accident hours ago. Their clues lead them back to square one. “Yes, Mrs. Carlwader we are doing everything we can. No I don’t know why the bus went off the road. What? No one has seen that creature. Alright bye.” Sheriff Randell hangs up the phone. “Your locals claim to see a large green monster?” McGee asks “Yeah. I have my boys down there at the hospital getting more statements. One thing I don’t get is how a man changes into a monster.” “I seen it happened. Spent a whole week with him. This David gets angry or whatever and turns into a monster. Been seen all around the country.” “Ever seen his face?” “No. One time he was stuck in mid-transformation it made him look distorted. He seems to be one step ahead of me.” The phone rings again. Sheriff Randell answers it. “Yeah. The woman with the daughter is up. You sure? All right when can I see her? Not now? Then when? All right later this afternoon. Thanks bye. “Well how is she?” McGee asks. “She is up. Doctors say that she should rest for a while. Her throat is bruised. She is willing to talk.” “This could be one of the missing pieces of the puzzle. What did that girl says his name was?” “David.” “Where there anybody on that bus with that name?” Sheriff Randell opens his books. He flips through each page. Finding anyone with the name ‘David’. “Let’s see. There was a David Zeller, David Barnes, David Ophenheim, David Muldun, and David Smith. Two out of the five names I mention hardly match the description.” “You said that there was a name David Barnes? It might be him. “Are you sure?” “Yes.” “Ok then.” McGee looks at him. “Sheriff, do you think that girl might have been in some shock?” “Maybe. Kids do tell stories.” “Well this kid might be the break I need.” “Look, I find it hard to believe that a green skin monster exists.” “Sheriff, you are not the first small town cop to say that to me. Every ‘Mayberry’ type town has seen that creature. Even the local law enforcement has seen the creature.” McGee’s comments about the local police force strikes a nerve with Randell. “You know McGee why aren’t you writing for the New York Times?” “Would the Times want to hear about a green skin monster? Look we can we talk to that woman and her daughter.” “When the doctor calls.” Later, David and Amanda come into town. They stop at eight traffic lights. They keep going around another block and stop at a stop sign. The car turns right and proceeds up the street. At last they have arrived at their destination. “Well David here we are. Funny I thought the press would be here by now.” Amanda asks. Both get out of the car and proceed to the science building. “David where did you work before?” “Culver Institute in California. I worked there for years. A lot of research went on there.” “Culver? I had applied there. I was hoping to meet Dr. David Banner. Have you heard of Dr. Banner?” Amanda’s questions cause him to think fast for an answer. “Yes I have. Dr. Banner was quite a man. It is to bad he died.” “Yes it is. Dr. Banner’s work was pioneering. It is to bad that he did have to die.” “I wonder what would happened if Dr. Banner would design a machine like that?” “Well he would have to talk to Prof. Graysen. Most importantly I think Dr. Banner would have say in it and how the machine should be designed. His genius would be great into the technology of the machine.” “Yes I agree so. However could Dr. Banner helped us even if he wasn’t dead.” David can not say out loud that he is David Banner. Nor can he for an image of a demon deep down in this soul. A demon that he can not get rid of. Both David and Amanda continue their trek across the campus. Talking about science and anything else in between. The two stop to have something to eat outside. “These are the best hot dogs on campus.” Amanda states “I like my hot dog with everything on it.” David says “I am going to get a paper.” Amanda says “Alight.” A few seconds later, she comes back with a local paper. “David look at this.” He looks the newspaper. His eyes widen somewhat in disbelief. Headline reads: EARLY MORNING BUS CRASH SENDS OVER A DOZEN TO THE HOSPITAL. David reads the article as she does¼ “Police also say that a large green skin monster is on the loose. Most the people on the bus swore that they had seen the creature. Police are looking for a man with medium height and weight, brown hair and eyes and goes by the name of David. Police in Fallen Waters are working the Nevada State Police and FBI. The creature is extremely dangerous and must not be approached.” David sets the paper down. He sighs heavily that the creature hurt no one. On the other hand what if he was. “Are you alright?” Amanda asks. “Yes I am. When does the conference on the machine start?” “In about an hour. It will be in the auditorium.” “Well Let’s go.” An hour later, the auditorium is packed with students, local people and reporters. David hides in the background. McGee is up front. Both men are unaware that they are in the same building. Amanda starts to the conference. “Ladies and gentlemen, members of the press, and fellow students and faculty. Today is a great start in the field of science as well as medicine. We are here today to wonder no more. To learn and study the technology and wonders of science. I am honor to have Prof. William Graysen explain his invention.” Amanda sits down. Prof. Graysen walks up the podium. He has thinning gray hair. Reading glasses, a lab coat, navy blue shirt with a bow tie, gray corduroys pants, and somewhat worn brown shoes. He starts the conference again. “Welcome everyone. My assistant did give you the coming attractions. However, she did not give you the main title. For over many years I have worked day and night. Between classes, writing books, appearing on TV, spending time with my family, and playing with my cat I had finally achieved my dream. A student in class had inspired me to create this machine.” Graysen continues¼ “In a world that is changing every minute of every hour. Yet in with diseases like small ailments like the common cold to big ailments like cancer, I have designed a machine that can separate matter.” “I call my invention the ZXA-2000. I hope that I can be up there with the likes of Edison and the Wright Brothers. On the other hand, I hope my invention is not like what Howard Hughes had.” The audience laughs. “Now this is the design of the machine. I will take each question one at a time.” “Professor, how many designs did it take to this?” A reporter asks. “It took a lot. I had first of all turned a theory into reality. Most off all I had to turn reality into something.” “Professor Graysen, this machine has it been used to test human subjects?” Another reporter asks. “No I have not tested any human subjects. I do want to test out blood samples first of all.” “Professor, what do your critics think about all this?” McGee asks. “My critics have either praised or criticized me for creating this. Folks this could be a break through in the science community. Well I have to end this. I want to thank you for coming here today. Thank you. The people start to file out. Some stay to say what they think. “Well I got to admit, Graysen might be on to something.” One reporter says. “Yeah, this give us a break from that bus crash. I have not had a break since this morning.” As one reporter complains. “You know I got people saying they saw a green monster. Maybe he came from here.” They laugh. “Hey, McGee what did you find out at the Sheriff’s office?” “Well, I am suppose to go with him to the hospital. In fact we are going to talk to the mother and daughter who saw the creature.” McGee says “Why do you want this creature?” “It could be a break.” McGee said. McGee walks and leaves. He goes out the door and passes David without either knowing about it. “I have to admit his conference opened a lot of minds.” David said. “Yes it did. He was proud of is ‘baby’ as he like to call it.” Amanda says “All that work and effort and the student that inspired him. Did he tell you who it was?” “Nope. Come on I want you to meet him.” “Oh that’s ok. I have to be going.” “Come on David lets go.” Amanda grabs David by the hand and the walk to the science building. They arrive inside and taken an elevator down. The doors open to a lab down with in the lab. “You have to meet him David.” “Amanda I don’t know.” The two work there away around tables and machines. When the two stop¼ “Professor Graysen I like to you to meet¼” “David Banner! My god you’re alive!” Graysen can not believe what he sees “Wait a minute, Dr. David Banner? But he is dead.” Amanda’s words are not ones that one no believes. “No this is David Banner. I recognized him anywhere. Why have you not told anyone that you are alive?” David looks around. He has to answer that question. A question that he can not avoid. “You are not going to believe me.” Moments later¼ “You are right, David I don’t believe you. It is impossible.” “How does it happen?” Amanda asks. “Pain, anger, stress.” “David, why? I mean why have you not told anyone your alive.” Graysen tells him “Fear that the creature might harm or kill someone.” David explains. “How long have you been this way?” Graysen asks “For over 4 years or so. I have been one end to the country. Looking everywhere for a possible cure. I have tried radiation, drugs, liquids, hypnosis, anything to help me control the creature.” “You said mentioned high gamma sun spots caused these peoples to have sudden strengths?” Amanda asks him “Yes. And because of my efforts to find that strength, a strength that could not save my wife, I got exposed to gamma rays.” David pulls out a picture of the creature. “My god, David! Is this you? My wife thinks this creature is real. I can not comprehend this.” Graysen says “I can’t either. Professor, maybe I am looking for something wrong instead of right. I fear that one day and one day only I will loose control of the creature.” “David, you and well Elania Marks were my best students. What would Elania do to help you?” Graysen asks “Elania would help me. Yet she paid with her life to help me. I can not watch another one die.” David tells him Amanda hugs David as way to show to her feelings of sorrow for him “Thank you.” “Your welcome David” “Professor, you said a student inspired you to create this machine. Who was it?” “You David.” David can not believe what he hears. “I mean, how, or what?” “I know your shocked David, but you were the one.” Graysen tells him. “Amanda, in class David could ask the most difficult questions. Yet one day he asked the most common of all questions. David, remember that saying ‘You can’t make an omelet with out breaking a few eggs’ correct.” “Yes.” David tells him. “Well in class and I do remember well, you said ‘Professor Graysen, how do you make an omelet with out breaking the egg.’ That is what got me started. Amanda get me an egg” “Here you go professor.” Amanda hands him an egg. “Now watch.” Graysen places the egg in the chamber. A small bowl is placed inside as well. “Now watch this.” He closes the chamber doors. Then he walks towards the computer. He types in codes and presses buttons. Next the computer makes a computer image of the egg and another image of the inside. Then a light glows inside the chamber. A humming noise is made. Watching on the screen is an image of the yolk being removed. Now the experiment is complete. “Amanda open the door.” Graysen tells her. “Yes Professor.” Amanda responds. Graysen walks in the chamber and removes the egg. He hands it to David. “Crack it open.” As he tells David David cracks it open. He looks inside and finds it empty. “Professor this is impossible!” David’s expression can not be explained. “Here is the yolk.” Graysen shows him a bowl with the yolk. “This amazing. I have never seen this done like this.” “David let me explain what I did.” “Alright.” “I had the computer scan the egg. The image you see is the egg itself. Now take a look at this. Now I had the computer make a second scan of the yolk. As it was doing that, inside the chamber a light was glowing. The DNA and structure of yolk was being broken down. Then the structure was put back together. Now as you can see in this image the egg looks normal.” “Professor this image shows the center of the egg being removed or something.” David shows him the picture. “Yes I had the computer take heat scanned pictures of the separating process. This shows what is being done.” “This is fascinating. I have never seen anything like this. To think that somehow that stuff you read in an H.G. Wells novel has come to life in someway or another.” David tells him “David, you said you were exposed to gamma rays right?” “That’s right. Why?” “How long have you been the creature?” “Four years or so why?” “This is a long shot but I might be able to cure you.” “How?” “Well, It is a long shot but I could use the XZA-2000 on you.” Graysen tells him David looks skeptical. He wonders if this can really work. Moreover his thoughts are persuading him to go for it or not go for it. Can this be his last chance? “Professor Graysen what you are asking me to do is impossible. How can I be sure that this is the one?” David says “David, it has to be hard going around. Hiding from the police and everyone else.” Graysen says “I can not take the risk of letting the creature out! If anything would happen your injuries or deaths would be on my hands! I can not take that risk!” “Listen to me. This can be your only chance of freedom. That creature is wanted for killing Elania Marks correct? A court of law would not even believe that you turn into this monster. What if that McGee found out? Your picture would be at every street light, wall, anywhere!” Graysen said David folds his arms. The false promises he has made to himself or heard from to rid the creature are ones that he can not follow. “Professor Graysen, don’t you think that I want to be normal. I want to live again. I want to wake up in a bed and not somewhere in an alleyway. I want to drink a cup of coffee in the morning with out even having to look for a dollar. I want to have a family. I want to be normal damn it!” “Now listen to me David. For the last few years you running has to tire you out. Now is the time. You can live again.” Graysen tells him. “If I do go through with this, how do you know that the creature will not take over? How do I know that this is not suicide?” David tells them. “I have not tried the machine on a human. Your DNA is unique in someway. Look let me do some tests and if this works your free.” “Then my freedom can come with a price then.” Even as David ponders waiting to make a decision on the fate of his alter ego, at the hospital, McGee and Sheriff Randell wait to talk to some patients. One of them a woman who sat next to David before the bus accident. “You know McGee, this has to be the most longest wait. Where is the doctor?” Randell asks. “The doctor is coming now.” McGee says Approaching both men, Dr. Ted Maneir walks up to them. “Gentlemen. The patient Rebecca Hersond has a bruised larynx. Her daughter has not left her side. All she talks about is seeing a man turn into a monster. Look, I know children have imaginations, but this child has claimed to see a man turn into this monster.” Dr. Maneir tells them. “Doctor, that child is not imagining things. I too have seen that man change into that monster. The creature is wanted for murder of two respectable scientists. I just want to find the man and hope to rid the creature.” McGee tells Dr. Maneir “I understand, my wife reads your paper Mr. McGee. As a doctor I care whatever patients I have under my care let their imagination run. However as a human, I find it hard to believe.” Dr. Maneir said “Look all we are asking Doctor is that Mr. McGee and I take a few minutes to ask her questions.” Sheriff Randell asks “All right. I want to be in the room. But only a few minutes.” Dr. Maneir says All three walk into the room. Lizzie Hersond holds her mother’s hand. “Mommy, daddy is going to be flying down. His Sergeant said ok.” Lizzie says. “Well I hope your daddy gets here soon. This is Sheriff Daniel Randell and Jack McGee a reporter they I have questions for you Mrs. Hersond.” Dr. Maneir tells her. Rebecca Hersond voice is soft when she says ok. “Mrs. Hersond, there was man, with dark brown hair, medium height and weight, about forty-ish. Was there a man next you that looked like that?” McGee asks. “Yes.” Rebecca says in raspy voice. “Ma’am your daughter saw this man change into a creature. This creature is this man. Now did he tell you his name?” Randell asks.” “He said David. No..last.. name.” “Did he mention anything else?” McGee ask. “That man said something about a science separation.” Lizzie says “Separation?” McGee ponders. “Wait a minute! McGee you said something about this man being near some labs on the way over here right?” Randell asks McGee. “Yes. That do you think that he could be gaining access and rid the creature?” McGee wonders. “If it is, then that University is not ready for that creature.” As McGee and Randell continue to search for either David or the Hulk, back at the University, a very important step is about to begin. “Ok David this is it.” Graysen says. “If anything happens, leave. I am not responsible for what the creature has done.” David says “We know. If anything should happened to you¼” Amanda is interrupted. “ I have to take risks.” David tells them. “David you were one of my favorite students. I want you to know that we are with you every step of the way.” Graysen tells him. “Are you ready?” Amanda says “Yes.” David’s answer is simple “Ok. When you get in the chamber the computers will scan you. Then I will them separate the gamma cells in your body.” “What of the danger of the radiation?” David questions “The machine will decontaminate the cells.” Graysen said. David sighs. He looks inside the chamber. Then he steps in.” “Good luck, David.” Amanda tells him. He does not answer. The door closes. A small window is what only he can see. This could be the final step in ridding the demon in his inner soul. “Let’s begin.” Graysen turns on the computer. Then Amanda turns on the image scanner. It takes a computerized image of David. “How much time Professor?” Amanda inquiries “About one minute.” Graysen says. One minute and David Banner might be closer to freedom. One minute to being free of the creature. “Alright, beginning separation now!” Graysen presses the button to start the process. So far is everything is ok. But¼ “Professor something is happening! His heart rate is going up, EKG is going haywire!” Amanda’s sudden readings get them off guard. “This can’t be happening!” Graysen looks at the readings. His thoughts go at one hundred miles an hour. What is happening inside he speculates “The monitors are going haywire! Do you think he is changing?” Amanda says Graysen looks at the monitors and tries to get the process shut down, but the failsafe button is stuck. “Amanda give me his vitals now!” “I can’t get a reading they are fluxawating! Professor what should we do?” “I don’t know but the process is just about complete¼now! Turn it off!” Graysen demands. In less than a minute the machine is turned off. Graysen and Amanda rush to the door to open it. When they do David falls out. “His clothes?” Amanda is shocked David’s shirt and pants are torn as if he been through the change. His exhausted body is weak as if somehow maybe he did change. “Are you alright? David?” Graysen’s concerns are starting to worry him. “I feel¼strange¼as if¼” David can not complete what he has to say “Do you think that we might have weekend him?” Amanda questions “I don’t know¼” Suddenly, Graysen is interrupted. “Rrrrrrrr¼” A growl gets their attention. Even David’s “Raarrrggrh!” “It can’t be! No!” David’s expression starts worry everyone. The three watch as the door gets dents, that grow louder and louder! “No! No! This is impossible!” David’s worry grow more and more As the dents get bigger so do the growls. They step back far away. Then¼ “Grrrroooowwwggghhr” All take cover as the avoid the flying debris or the twisted metal and glass that flies through the air. Then when the smoke clears, there eyes widen in horror to what is in front of them. “Oh my god.” Amanda whispers. “No! It can’t be!” It is impossible!” David shouts. For what is in front of them is most powerful man-beast ever to walk the earth and that is the Hulk! “What the?” Graysen aids both David and Amanda in getting up and slowly backing away from the creatures “This is some nightmare come to life and now it is real.” David states. “Rrrrrr....” The Hulk see’s David and starts to go after him. Amanda pushes a table in front of him to keep him from his former self. “Arrargh!” However the table is broken in half is the ol’ greenskin rips it apart. Next he shoves Graysen aside and Amanda runs for cover. As for David he has no protection as the Hulk grabs him. “David reason with him! Tell him that he is you!” Graysen said “How his rage is beyond reason!” David says. Seeing the rage in his eyes terrofies David reaching with his right arm, he grabs a metal rod and tries to strike the creature only to have it bend in half. This make the Hulk more mad. Picking David up over his head, the Hulk throws him across the room. David hit the wall hard with force. Amanda and Graysen can not gasp as they watch him fall on to a desk and right on to the floor. Not enough time to get past the Hulk as he goes after him again to finish him off. However a faint sound of sirens echo outside. The Hulk hears them and goes towards the wall. Clasping both hands together and swinging with his arms and hands he crashes through the wall and runs off. Amanda rushes to David. Graysen looks outside and sees the Hulk flexing his muscles roaring over the other sounds around him. “Professor!” Graysen is not in tuned to what is around him for he does not hear Amanda’s cries. “Professor Graysen please?” Amanda says again. “What is it? How is David?” “I don’t know!. I can not find a pulse!” TO BE CONTINUED THE INCREDIBLE HULK In part one of The Incredible Hulk, David Banner was on his way to a town in Nevada when he was caught in a bus accident. The Hulk got off the bus and made a run for it. Just then McGee and Sheriff Daniel Randell start to investigate the crash. Lizzie Herdsen tells McGee that she saw David change into the creature and told a little about David. Meanwhile, Amanda Yewar picked up the scientist an assistant at the university where David was heading too. He told Amanda that he was interested in a new experiment that could separate physical matter. Later, McGee and Randell try to piece together the accident. Back at the university, David discovers that his former teacher designed the XZA-2000. Professor William Graysen told David that he could help him. Yet, McGee was getting closer to the truth. As the experiment is about to begin, David warns what might happen. Even as the experiment is going on, something causes the machine to go haywire. Both manage to get David free only find that somehow the Hulk became separated from him. The creature turns his rage onto David and takes it out on him. Hearing sirens, the Hulk takes off. Yet did he finish is alter-ego for good as Amanda has not found a pulse. SEPARATED PART II (AIR DATE IF AIRED JANUARY 15, 1982) It has been not even less than an hour since Dr. David Banner and his ego The Incredible Hulks have been freed. For the Hulk the freedom is something new to him. His rage of being caged up inside David Banner for years is something is what he is letting lose as he runs across the University. Students scatter to find a place to hide. They do not know what is happening. “Arrarrghgrh!” No one feels safe from the Hulk’s rage. Is this his way to celebrated being released from David? Is it the chance he has to be free? Who is safe? “Growrrggh!” Then he stops. The creature looks at the statue of the founder of Cactus Tree University. His name is Dr. Bruce David. David’s first two names backwards. This causes the green skin monster to enrage more. Pushing hard with his hands, the granite statue, the bottom starts to crack. Then one college student stands underneath. Paralyzed in fear that she will be crushed, her boyfriend grabs her just as the statute falls and shatters. “Rrrrrrrr.” Sirens over takes the screams now. Police cars find any place to park. Brave men from rookies to veteran officers are taking a big risk to stop this creature. Guns and rifles click and in position. “I want this area cleared! Get everyone away from the center!” Sheriff Randell orders. “Sheriff, this creature is dangerous! Look if your ‘Joe Friday’s’ go out shooting he could kill an innocent man!” McGee warns. “I understand that McGee! Right now that Hulk of yours is terrorizing this campus. I cannot allow any of these students to get hurt dammit!” Randell makes his statement clear. “Roowwrrgggh!” Turning his back around the Hulk see the police. Knowing that someone could get hurt. So he runs. “Open fire!” Sheriff Randell’s orders go unheeded. Guns fire as bullets either misses, ricochet, or try to hit the Hulk. However, he escapes and leaves the campus. “Aaarrhggh!” “Seal of the exits! I want that creature! Make sure no one leaves this campus!” Randell knows that this is going to be rough. “Well, I told you. McGee said. “Ok, lets to talk to Professor Graysen.” Randell says Soon enough police and reporters swarm Graysen’s lab. Scattering around to find answers. The lab is wrecked. The chamber he had worked on is now smashed. Amanda is not in the room as is David. “Professor, what just happened here?” One reporter asks “I was working on an experiment. A small prototype. Somehow I miss calculated the system when I logged in the wrong error. I think that um something was building up and it exploded.” “What were you working on?” McGee asks. “That is private. I don’t discuss my experiments unless I have too.” Graysen says “A professor look there was man who was on the bus early this morning. He has dark brown hair, medium height and weight, and about in his forties. This man turns into a green skin creature. Now can you explain that hole in the wall and why a large green skin monster was running around on campus?” McGee asks again. “Look! I don’t know what the hell just happened? Some chemicals that were volatile got on the lab and exploded!” Graysen shouts. “If you are protecting this man Professor we can¼”Randell is interrupted. “You have asked enough.” Amanda said “We still don’t have answers. All right we will come back. This time we want answers not questions.” Randell tells the two of them. “Leave. If we see a large green skin monster, I will call the army.” Amanda says smartly. Soon enough “Well McGee looks like we didn’t find you ‘John Doe’ or is his name David.” Randell tells him. “I don’t know. There has to be more than something going on here. Was that his assistant?” McGee asks. “Yes. Amanda Yewar. Graduated last summer I guess. She has been handling Graysen’s work for a while.” Randell said “Well lets see if the Hulk has been sited anywhere else.” McGee says At Graysen’s lab, both he and Amanda start to pick up the damage caused by the Hulk. His eyes somewhat sadden, Graysen wonders if his experiment would ever be a success. “It took me almost fifteen years to build this. Now look at it.” Graysen says “Professor, we tried at least David is free right.” Amanda tells him Then David comes walking out staggering as Graysen grabs him and helps him to a chair “David is you all right?” Graysen asks “Yes I am. The creature? Where is he?” David asks. “He is gone.” Amanda tells him. His shoulders drop. Then he folds his arms. David looks at them. “Where?” He questions? “We don’t know.” Graysen said “How could this have happened? How could he have gotten free from me?” David examines the question in his mind again. “David, were you nervous before the experiment began?” Graysen wonders “Yes.” He says “Ok. Hmmmm” Graysen ponders. “What?” David looks at him “Amanda gets me the read outs from the experiment.” “Here you go.” “Thank you.” Graysen looks at the charts. He examines each reading very carefully. “David take a look at this.” “What is it?” David asks him. “Look at this.” He points to David what he found. “This is your brain activity right here. Now the computer was monitoring to see if the change would happen. Yet look right here.” He shows David something. “That looks like two brain waves patterns mixed together. As if somehow it was registering two people.” David thinks “Now look at this. Your heart rate was high. Yet this is showing two readings into one.” Graysen says “But that still does not mean anything to me.” David said “I think somehow the creature might have been coming apart from you.” Graysen thinks “But how could he have gotten free from me. How could my clothes get torn?” David asks. “Wait a minute. Think about it. You said that anger, fear, and pain is one of those factors that cause the change right. Now what if you were going through the change?” “How so?” David questions. “You might have been going through the change and the creature might have been separating from you.” “Are you saying that I was changing and somehow the creature became separate from me?” “Yes. That is my theory. However, the computer might have targeted the creature instead of the gamma rays. I am still pondering to what really happened.” “Oh that’s great. Without it under my control and I or no one else can control it.” David says “Where do you think it is now?” Amanda wonders “If he is still in town, he would not have far to go. I have to go after it.” David tells them. “Your crazy to go after it. Let the police handle it.” Graysen pleads “Look if McGee or any police go after it, all of it comes back to me. I am not taking that risk I have to do it alone.” “David listen to me. This creature is like a child. He is lost and confused.” “But what if the creature attacks or kills someone? Any I cannot think like that. I have to find him.” “I know how you feel. Moreover what if that McGee would find you out. Are you willing to risk being exposed?” “No. How the hell can he be out there? What if he kills someone? He is not under my control. He could have killed that girl today.” “David, the Hulk did not kill her don’t think that.” Amanda said “We will find it. In the meantime, we got this machine to fix.” Graysen says As Graysen tries to take David’s mind off his ego, lets check in with being other star of this story. The Hulk is now far away from the campus. His energy is almost spent. Yet the alleyway is not a place to hide. “Rrrrrrrrrrrr¼.” He hears something and hides. Yet the dumpster that shields hides’ him offers him little protection. Like a child he is lost and confused. He has no idea where he is? His instincts only guides him to where the location he has founded. Looking around a dog walk up to the green-skin goliath. This little dog is not scared by the Hulk’s looks. Walking up toward ol’ greenskin, this dog finds a rest on its leg. Petting it, the Hulk smiles. He has found a friend. This dog could be lost like the Hulk. Then a noise gets their attention. Slowly getting up the Hulk looks around. The noise is trash bag being ruffled and a faint voice “Scrampy! Hear boy! Where is that blasted mutt at?” Someone says “Raaaarrghrrhh!” Growling as away to scare away whoever is there. A man with shaggy dark hair, wearing an old army jacket with a white T-shirt, and faded blue jeans. He approaches the dumpster and finds “Well I’ll be” Shocked, he finds something else besides his dog, a large green skin monster. “Um look fellas. I just want my dog ok.” “Rrrrrrrrrr¼” “No shirt? Do you have a name?” “Roowwrrgghh!” “You don’t have to shout. Sheesh. Ok I will tell you my name. It is Patrick.” Patrick extends his hand then the Hulk does too. “Come on. My place is right around the corner. Let’s go.” He says Somewhat not trusting the Hulk follows him. Where he goes is something only Patrick knows. At the Sheriff’s office, Randell’s phones have been ringing nonstop since the Hulk’s rampage on campus. Parents are concerned about their son or daughter being attacked. “Look Mrs. Carson you would have to call the University to get your son out. Any ma’am that creature has not been seen so far. Yes, yes. Ok thanks.” Randell hangs up “I see the parents are taking their kids out.” McGee says “Yeah. After seeing that creature I cannot even think that is real.” He tells McGee. “Real or not we have to find it.” Deputy Diana Harri walks in. “Sheriff, Melinda wants to know if you want some sandwiches and coffee sent over?” She asks “Yeah. It’s going to be busy. Not since that VanBrunier case.” Randell said “VanBrunier?” McGee says “About a few years ago Richard VanBrunier twins’ Roxie and Jon were kidnapped. His wife came from a somewhat high-class family. Well. The twins were kidnapped. So for a week we looked. Turned out some laid off a worker from that plant outside of town that they owned kidnapped them.” “So what happened?” “Well to make a long story short, we found the twins. The guy is still in prison, and the family moved out of town.” “I suppose I should head back to my room.” “Yeah. I will call if anything happens.” As McGee starts to leave, someone enters the office. He is about in his late sixties, silver hair that is bald. Wearing a plaid blazer, a white shirt with a bow tie, and corduroy pants. “Sheriff, I want you to escort Professor Graysen off my campus immediately.” The MAN says “What is your name?” Randell asks. “Albert Pensen. President of the University. After today I want him off.” Pensen demands “Look, we can not go in there and force him off.” Randell states “ I don’t give a damn about force. I got parents calling me. I might have to close down.” “Mr. Pensen, my paper is offering a reward to any information leading to its capture of the Hulk. Now did you hear anyone say where it was heading?” McGee asks Pensen. “No.” “If you makes you feel better we will go talk to Graysen.” Randell reassures Pensen. “Fine.” Pensen walks out. He slams the door. His disappointment is something Randell did not expect. “I find that he was expecting you to get rid of Graysen in handcuffs.” McGee says “Oh boy. This is not going great.” “Just wait, it gets real better.” McGee tells him Yet as two men with different views on how to capture the Hulk, back at Graysen’s lab David helps Amanda fix the machine. “Hand me that conductor.” Amanda tells David “Here you go.” David works hard. He has not stopped. His hand wipes sweat off of his forehead. He takes a drink of water and continues to work. “Do you need a break?” Amanda asks. “No. I am fine.” David said “You look a little pale. I was concerned that you might be feeling ill.” Amanda’s worries startle David “Look, I am tired. But right now I have to help get this fixed. With the Professor at the president’s office, I have to help finish this.” “David, why don’t you rest for a few hours. I will continue. Besides, I helped designed it.” “All right. I guess some rest will not hurt me.” “Ok. I will wake you up.” Just as David is going to take a little nap to calm him down. Things are not calm at the President’s office. Outside, the secretaries try to type as loud as they can over the shouting between President Pensen and Professor Graysen. “This has gone on far enough Graysen! Your experiments are costing us money!” Pensen shouts “Money! If your tuition was not so high maybe the science department can get more funding!” Graysen retaliates. “For over twenty-five years you have been on this campus not once did you bring results to this campus.” Pensen mentions. “I never brought results. Your to busy in board meetings with the dean. I was on covers of Time and all that! I was on TV and radio. You have no right to tell me I never brought any results!” Graysen points out. “I am giving you forty-eight hours to get whatever you need cleared from your office.” Pensen says “You’re firing me?” Graysen is suddenly shocked. “I have parents calling me! Blast it you’re too much of a risk! Besides, I have no other choice.” Pensen states “No choice. Will hear this. I will not leave this campus until my experiment is finished! Not even you or anyone else can stop me! Graysen walks out. He slams the door so loud that it breaks the window to Pensen’s office. “That will cost you!” Pensen’s warns. Yet let us check in with the Hulk and his new friend Patrick. His apartment is small, one bedroom, a bathroom, a living room, and a kitchen and dinning area. This is even small for the Hulk’s height. “Have a seat.” Patrick offers Hulk a seat. “Rrrrr!” The Hulk slumps in a chair. He leans back and the chair reclines. “Rroooowwwrrgh!” “Calm down. Say, I have seen your face some where before. Yeah, where was it.” Going through old newspapers and magazines, Patrick finally he finds an old copy of The National Register “This is you. You’re the Hulk right?” He asks. Holding it close, the Hulk looks at. “Hulk right? Don’t you speak? Here try to say your name Hulk.” “Rrraaagggrrggh!” “Great this is going to be long. Try to sound it out. H-U-L-K. He tries again. “Grruuullggh” “Not close try again.” “Hrrruullkkgghhh.” “That’s it. You’re getting it.” “Hhhuullkkk.” “Yes!” “Hulk.” The creature says the word. “That is your name.” Patrick says “Hulkrrr. Rwwhy is Hulk herrggh?” The creature has trouble sounding out words. “Well, I thought you need a warm place.” Patrick gives a Hulk a drink of his whisky. Yet smelling it the Hulk gives it back to him. “Hulk not lirrggkkee smellrrrr.” “I see we have to work on some more.” For the Hulk learning to speak is new to him, back at the lab Graysen tells the news. “¼And that is what he said.” Graysen discusses what transpired in Pensen’s office. “Even if he did shut this down, then the creature would be free to rampage. Did you mention me?” David questions. “No, I didn’t.” Graysen answers. “So what now?” Amanda asks. “We will finish fixing the machine. Then find the creature.” Graysen states. “When we find the creature we can¼” Suddenly David collapses. Both Graysen and Amanda rush to his side. “What happened to him Professor?” “I don’t know? Get him to my cot. I will check him out.” Moments later¼ “I have this bad feeling.” Graysen’s worries began to upset Amanda “Why, what is wrong with him?” Amanda wants to know “Well, somehow, David and the Hulk had to be somewhat a part of each other. Even though they are two separate identities, they feel somehow connected. Maybe the strain of being apart is taking its toll on him. How much sleep did he get?” “I let him sleep for eight hours. He was so exhausted that I did not want to wake him. Why?” I don’t think that David has much time to live.” “Are you saying¼” “I am saying that the strain might have been to much.” “What if David dies?” “If he dies, then I got this hunch that the monster will die also.” At Patrick’s apartment, the Hulk is getting better at speaking. “Hulk remember man, keeping him inside. Trapped in black. Can’t see.” “So this man does he have a name?” “No, Hulk not know. Hulk think that man is someone, Hulk hates.” “Grraaarrghh!” Yet, just like David, the Hulk falls over. “Are you alright? Can I get you something?” “Aaaagggrrrhh! Hulk in paaiiiinnnnn!” Getting up the Hulk smashes a small coffee table. He grabs his stomach as if somehow the pain is there. His rage builds. “Uh, look, um calm down, I have not paid this apartment’s rent yet.” “Rrrraaagggrrhhh!” Looking towards the door, ol’ greenskin staggers near it, then pulling his muscles back he slams his hands on the door, breaking it in pieces. He runs down the hall and leaps out the window. Landing, on the ground the Hulk runs in pain. Sheriff’s office. “What, ok I am on it.” Randell hangs up the phone. Next he calls McGee “McGee, your Hulk was seen running down between Engelhart and 7th Street. Hanging up, Randell grabs his rifle, and heads out. On the other hand, Graysen and Amanda here the scanner about the Hulk’s sighting. “Stay here with David, I will try¼” “N-no. Have to stop it.” David slowly gets up. His pale face with sweat comes down his forehead. The steps he takes are so slow that he falls back down on to the cot. “Now, listen to me your in no shape to go after it.” Graysen makes his warning stern. “With all due respect, I am responsible. I need to go after it please!” David pleads. “Ok. I will take you to where the Hulk is. I got a CB in my car. We can listen in.” “Fine.” Soon enough the cruiser carrying Randell and McGee pass Graysen’s car with David in it. “Sheriff, we looked all over even in alleyways, where is it?” McGee looks around as the car drives up and down. “I don’t know but we will find it.” Randell continues to drive Graysen and David fair no better either. “It is no use David we searched¼” “I know. But somehow he has to be here.” Graysen watches as David tries to stay awake. He knows the truth that David is dying. “We are going back to the lab. Maybe something will turn up.” Just then David sees something. “Pullover.” “Why?” Graysen asks. “Look at the window up there. Now look at the way it is all smashed up. The creature had to be there.” David thinks “Let’s go see.” Moments later¼ “This seems to be the right place.” David said Knocking on the door, it opens and Patrick the man who spent time with the Hulk answers. “Yes?” “Uh, we are looking for a large abnormal green man?” Have you seen it?” David questions “Why yes. Thought the poor thing was a government experiment gone wrong? You know like some super-solider for the army.” “Did he hurt you?” David asks “Nope. He sure did shout a lot. Then I realized that he was that Hulk in that paper. So I asked him if that was his name? He growled right back at me. I sounded out his name. Then he said it?” “Said what?” Graysen wants to know “His name?” He started to speak “That’s impossible.” David is shocked. “He spoke. I started helping him speak. It was only a few hours. Then he grabbed his sides like he was in pain. Started destroying my place.” Patrick tells them what he saw the Hulk do earlier. An interruption from the radio gets their attention. “¼Sightings of a large green monster that was sighted around 6:30am this morning was sighted on Trimpe street recently. Sheriff Randell is asking people to stay inside. This creature is dangerous. Do not approach.” Patrick turns off the radio. “Where is Trimpe St.?” David asks “Just seven blocks from here.” Patrick replies David takes off. Graysen is right behind him trying to catch up. “David wait! You can not do this alone!” Graysen shouts “I have to do this alone! That radio report said that he did not hurt anyone! What if he did? I am responsible for somehow for that creature! We are wasting time!” Graysen does not understand why David wants to help or destroy himself. He knows that both David and the Hulk are dying. The strain of being apart is too much. “Alright, I will take you there.” Even with the police searching, the town searching for those that are brave, only one is brave to face “himself.” Sitting down, with his legs up to his chest with his arms around his legs. The Hulk does not move. He shrouds himself in the darkness of the alleyway once more. His senses do not allow him to hear a car approach. David gets out. “Be careful.” Graysen says “I will.” David starts to proceed down the alley. Dim lighted, as it is, he tries to see down what is ahead of him. Nevertheless, the Hulk hears David coming and gets up. “Rrrrrrrrraaaaarrrrrgggggggghhhhh!” Shoving a dumpster aside the green skin goliath stands in enough light as David does also and they meet somewhat face to face. “Is that the best you can do?” David taunts “Rrraaarrhhh!” “Oh come off it. I know you can speak somewhat?” “Grrrhulk knows youarrghh!” “Oh you know me. How do you know me?” “Face seen before. Hulk hard to think. Arrrhh!” “Well, I am sure you hate guessing. I am David Banner.” “Bannerrrraggh! Banner? Why you know Hulk?” “For one reason. I am you. You’re my rage that comes out when I get mad. Yet, I tried to get rid of you.” “Try to rid of me?” “Yes! For over the last five years, I have tried everything. You ruined my life! I never got a chance to be normal!” Clinching his fist, snarling at David, the Hulk is ready to crack him in the face “You can not scare me! It is because of all the years of running that people thought I killed Elania!” “Hulk remember woman helping him. Beautiful. Died in Hulk’s arms. Told Hulk she loved him.” For the first time David is surprised that the Hulk remembers. Although, David is shocked to find out that Elania Marks had feelings for him. “How do you know that?” David asks. “Hulk remembers another woman, she dies in rain in Hulk’s arm too.” “You recall about what happened to Caroline?” David’s mind goes back to the years of pain and hurt. Losing loved ones. Seeing people that he cares about dying or hurt. Trying so hard to forget but can not. “Elania, Caroline, and even people who tried to aid me in getting rid of you!” “Hulk even remember an old man. That could not see but he helped Hulk.” “Lee Sung.” “Hulk want to know why he can not see father and sister.” “Why, because I do not want to bring pain!” The Hulk starts to walk up towards David. He grabs him, and throws him out of his sight “Hulk smash! Gggrraaaaarrrghhhh!” “Agghh!” David gets back up. He picks up an old wooden plank and puts forth the effort to knock the Hulk out. “Rooowwgghh!” Next the Hulk punches David. “Unngh!” “Come on Hulk. I am sure you wanted to do this to me for years. Well you won’t have a chance in hell!” “Hulk smash puny Banner!” “The only one puny around here is you!” Now the Hulk grabs David by his shirt and hurdles him again. “You will never win this Hulk!” The two keep on fighting each other. Trying to kill the other. Until the both fall. Graysen who has been watching now for the last half-hour gets out of the car. He runs up and finds them both bloody and beaten. “David my god!” He assists David to his feet. “Both of you need to be put back together.” “No! Want to die!” “You’re not going to die! I am not going to let it happened! Come on, help me with the Hulk!” Weak as he David helps Graysen put the Hulk in his car. Despite the fact that McGee and Randell just saw what happened “Follow that car!” McGee says. “I am on it.” Graysen drives fast to the university. He does not stop before the brakes stop the car. “Amanda! Get out here now! Help us!” Quickly hearing the cries of help Amanda discovers a dying David and Hulk. “Help me get them back into the machine! Hurry every second counts!” Just as Graysen and Amanda try to get David and the Hulk help the sheriff’s car pulls up and Pensen comes walking up. “About time. I saw them pull up moments ago. It was to dark but I did not see that man that Graysen and his assistant were carrying in.” Pensen explains. “Let’s get to his lab.” Randell pulls the lever on his rifle. “Sheriff, I don’t want this man hurt. Whoever he is has to be not hurt!” McGee begs “Don’t worry.” Randell smirks as he loads his rifle. Within Graysen’s lab, the now fixed XLA-2000 has both David and the Hulk inside. He closes the door quickly. “Began scan for re-emergence.” Graysen says “Scanning.” Amanda says “Alright, both have been scanned. Began the process now!” Amanda pushes the button. In less than a minute both David and the Hulk will be merged back together. “It is almost complete. Ten more seconds. And it is over.” Graysen says. “It is over for you. Hand’s up.” Randell points his rifle to both of them. “I warned you Graysen, now I have no choice!” Pensen says “You damn fools. I got someone in there.” “Open it up.” McGee asks Inside a groggy David looks he can not seen that good through the small glass on the door. “You are wasting are time Professor now open or I will haul you and your assistant for aiding a fugitive.” “I won’t let you¼” Graysen is shoved aside as David watches, but he can not watch. He feels the anger build up feels the rage. Which now causes the gamma cells in his body to begin the change. White eyes stare out as the incredible change begins. Amanda rushes right up to him “Can you not see what you are doing is wrong!” “Ma’am I will have to use force if I have too.” Randell says Inside, David’s chest starts to expand as the buttons pop off. Flexing his arms as biceps bulge out. Then his boots start to rip up the side, as do his jeans. “I warned you fair and square.” Pensen tells them A sound of pounding gets their attention. “W-what?” Pensen hides The sound grows louder and louder. Instantly, the door is knocked away as the Incredible Hulk emerges! “Raaarrrhhh!” “I don’t believe it!” Randell points his gun right at the Hulk “Hulk not like big guns!” “I don’t think I am hearing things. The creature is speaking!” McGee is astonished. Maybe his readers can find out if that is true. “Hulk know you! You man that always in Hulk’s way! Why can you leave Hulk alone? Rroowwrrrgghhh!” The roar causes McGee to be blown away. Grabbing Randell’s rifle, the Hulk breaks it half. “Rrrraaarrrrgghh!” Then the Hulk grabs Randell and throws him across the room. He looks over to Amanda and Graysen. “Hulk sorry.” The green skin creature takes off running and breakdown the wall as he makes his escape. McGee gets up hurries to the now opened wall “John! Wait! Or if it is David! Wait!” But nevertheless, the Hulk is long gone. Days later, Amanda and Graysen are packing up stuff in the lab. When the phone rights. Amanda answers “Hello. David! So good to hear from you! Where are you?” She inquires. “Well I am somewhere in a Idaho.” David has on his tan jacket. Even his duffle bag. Wearing a clean red shirt and blue jeans. He is inside a phone booth. “I am so glad your ok. When we came back to from the Sheriff’s office we found your things gone.” “I had to leave. I could not stay. Is the professor there?” He asks. “Yes. Professor, its David.” Graysen takes the receiver. “David, how are you?” “I am fine. What is happening with you?” “I am retiring. My wife and I are moving back to Washington. I miss that space tower.” “Will you continue to write?” “I might write occasionally. In contrast, I might tackle with that high school chemistry set.” “The XLA-2000, is it?” “Yes. I destroyed it. I even burned my notes. Look I may not be smart like you are you David, but I can not let anyone have my notes or my formulas. “Well you always taught us that to be smart you just got to do your best and that only you can help yourselves. I remember that as well.” “I wish I could help you. That McGee is still around.” “I am sure he is looking for answers yet he will not find.” “Good luck David. I hope that you find all that you whatever you need.” “Thank you.” David hangs up the phone. He starts to walk away. Appreciating the fact that he came so close to a cure. His thoughts are to now how he can control his own rage until his next adventure takes him. THE END
